Institutionally owned surplus property can be a valuable resource for colleges and universities. However, many campuses struggle to effectively manage surplus programs. Maintaining an accurate inventory of items available, managing on-campus requests for items, and determining what and how to offer for sale to the public all present challenges.
In this webinar, we heard from managers of surplus programs that focus on furniture and larger items, as well as one program that focuses more on office supplies. Speakers shared information about the structure of their programs and lessons learned about different approaches to the distribution and sales of goods (through online auction vs. in person sales, for example).
