Recycling & Waste Reduction in Campus Housing

A 360 focus on the unique challenges and opportunities in campus housing and residence halls

Original Stream Date: June 23, 2016

Webinar Summary:

As semi-autonomous auxiliaries, housing departments can be a separate world from the rest of campus, with unique administrative and operational factors influencing recycling and waste management systems. At the same time they offer a special opportunity to engage and educate student residents about waste reduction.

This program will include a look at how two schools, Michigan State University and Keene State College manage the flow of recoverable materials from a diverse mix of residence halls, apartments and other housing arrangements. The program will also include a spotlight presentation on how the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point collects food organics from residence halls, as well as a look at how the University of South Carolina and other campuses organize their Eco-Rep programs to effectively engage students within housing to build a culture of sustainability.
