Brenda Pulley
Senior Vice President, Recycling
Keep America Beautiful

Presentation:
“Making Recycling Matter:  Educate, Motivate, Activate”

Many factors play a role in making recycling successful, having an individual to be motivated to engage in the act of recycling is one of them. Three key factors guide Keep America Beautiful’s  (KAB) work to improve recycling in America: convenience, communication and cause.   KAB is focused on how to make recycling an easy action to take and better understanding how to motivate individuals to take that action.  Join us in this session to learn more about insights, techniques and tools in engaging individuals to recycle.

About the Presenter:

Brenda joined Keep America Beautiful (KAB) in October 2010 to enhance the organization’s efforts to improve recycling – specifically how to increase awareness, motivation and action to increase more of the right things.  In her role to grow the reach and impact of KAB’s recycling initiatives, she is responsible for strategic planning, research, and program design and implementation.  Brenda also serves on the Board of Directors of SERI (Sustainable Electronics Recycling International) – whose mission it is to promote environmentally responsible reuse and recycling practices throughout the electronics sector and serves as the home of the R2 standard.

Prior to joining KAB, Brenda served as the Vice President of Corporate Affairs and Communications for Novelis – a global aluminum rolling and recycling company.  Brenda has worked on various environmental issues both in the public and private sectors, starting her career working for the U.S. House of Representatives, Energy and Environment Small Business Committee.

Get to Know the Presenter

While we are serious about sustainable materials management we thought it would be fun to ask our speakers a few silly, personal questions to get to know them. Here are Brenda’s:

What was the name of your first pet?     Skeeter

What is your favorite pizza topping?     Black olives and fresh basil!

Do you prefer to watch the sunrise or sunset?     Sunset

What is your one environmental vice?       Bad:  I leave lights on (because I love light)   Good vices:  drives me crazy when people litter and do not recycle.

What do you believe is the biggest challenge and what is the biggest opportunity in Sustainable Materials Management today?
Getting manufacturers to better understand the opportunities and to better link internally to identify these opportunities.
